VW Tiguan GTE Active 2017 and 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Electric Minivan are two of the best green energy cars unveiled at the 2016 Detroit auto show.

Chrysler pioneered the minivan back in 1984, and now the automaker has given the segment new life by launching the world's first electrified minivan. The 2017 Pacifica features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that allows it to drive up to 30 miles in full electric mode and achieve an impressive 80-MPGe rating. The Pacifica Hybrid is slated to arrive later this year.

While VW still hasn't found a fix for the thousands of emissions-cheating diesel models it sold, the automaker has been working to improve its image with a range of new electrified models. VW chose the Detroit Auto Show to reveal the Tiguan GTE Active concept, an off-road-ready plug-in hybrid SUV based on the next-generation Tiguan.
The vehicle is powered by an efficient four-cylinder engine and two electric motors, and it can travel up to 20 miles in electric mode before the gas engine kicks in. The new Tiguan will arrive for the 2017 model year, but VW hasn't announced when a plug-in hybrid version will be available.
